So, I have decided to give and take the Bentylol perscribed by the doctor. I am nervous about taking but did do a search on here and many have had great results with it. Which is going to help me take that first pill right now! Gonna do it. Any one else have comments on Bentylol?

Hi there. I've found that it works quite well for me. I hardly ever take it anymore, since I've almost overcome IBS, but when my tummy does act up, I take it. I hope it treats you well.

My dr just switched me to that last week. He first tried me on Levbid, but the side effects were too bad. The bentyl still makes my eyes kind of blurry & achey, some headaches, but not as bad as the levbid was. I believe it's Hyoscyamine (levbid) compared to dicyclomine (bentyl). My pharmacy always gives me the generics & those names are harder to remember! LOL I'm still adjusting to the bentyl...I hope the blurred vision goes away as I get used to it. I used to take Librax/Clindex with no problems, but I don't think it was helping me anymore. Good luck...hope it helps you!

Hi Jane, I'm taking Bentyl right now too. They may not have it on the instructions, but you have to take it at least a half hour, preferably one hour before eating, otherwise food will prevent it's absorbtion and it won't be effective. If you have the 20mg pills, you can take two of those at once if your cramps are really bad. I've found it works really well on stomach cramps but not as well on bowel spasms. -Bob

Thanks Bob, yes it does say to take 1/2 hour before eating (I wasn't sure why though). I get both stomach cramps and bowel spasms, do you take anything for the latter?

Anti spasmodics slow down the system which helps the cramps, but not the C, for me at least.
Have you tried peppermint instead? Just asking because I know you still suffer from C...so maybe you might want to try laying off the bentyl as an experiment??

when you say C do you mean constipation? (not cramping right?) I don't have Constipation, only cramping and D.

I was prescribed Bentyl also and it made me worse. I still had major bloating and cramping just like always. Even after my b/m i still have that pain. So i stopped that and now my new PCP put me on Levison (dissolves under the tongue) so we'll see how that works. So far it doesn't work but everything takes time to kick in and do its thing. I hate all these pills and wish i didnt have to take a pill, Dr. love prescribing patients something 4 everything.

How long have you been on the that pain. So i stopped that and now my new PCP put me on Levison? I am only on my 3 pill of Bentylol. I just came back from my dr. and she said it will help the stomach aches but not usually help the intestine spasiming(?). GREAT!
