Am I the only one who gets "burpy" from fatfree salad dressing? (i.e. fatfree Italian, etc.)
Just curious.

I get burpy from fennel/chamomile tea!
Could it be the vinegar? Does it have sugar or a sugar sub? Those could make me burpy...
Hope you figure it out! *hugs*

I added plain rice vinegar for more acidity--rice vinegar is quite low acid and sulfite free. Could a PPI, i.e. Nexium make you burpy? I keep getting the hiccups too. Hmmm...maybe I'm just swallowing, i.e. big gulping a lot of air. We have a heat wave and I'm using my inhaler like crazy. My hayfever is raging and I can't take antihistamines as they make me manic.
I just notice that after I use salad dressing I get supremely burpy. Weird.

Hi Kate, No you're not the only one. I've been using a fat free French dressing, and almost always get the burps from it. However, I have a bad habit dumping gobs of salad dressing on my salads. When I was at my sister's I was using a basil based salad dressing and got lots of burps from that too.But I must say I didn't mind burping it back up because it tasted sooo good! -Bob

Maybe it's the XANTHAN GUM--prepared salad dressings contain different "gums," etc. It could have also been the propylene glycol alginate (derived from kelp). Some contain microcrystalline cellulose (i.e. fatfree or Hellman's Ultra). The one I used didn't contain carageenan or the microcrystalline cellulose--it was just Kraft fatfree! Yes, in retrospect, I honestly believe it was the "Xanthan gum!" (an emulsifier/stabilizer)
What do you think?
Kate.

It didn't have parmesan cheese in it, did it? For some reason I have a recollection of Kraft Fat Free Italian having some in it, you would never think til you read the ingredients! Which is what it sounds like you did... hmmm. Lately I have just been making my own balsamic vinegarette, so that I know all that is in it, light on the olive oil... not the tastiest, but whatever works! I actually haven't been eating salad much at all, it is sucj a big trigger for me when I am not careful, and right now I am dangling on the edge of stability right now.
