i have some sort of motility disorder, the doctor says ibs is just a name for a motility disorder, my symptoms are little appetite (i never get hungray) excessive belching, nausea, and never have an urge to go to the bathroom. Does this sound like ibs, he put me on elavil 20mg and zelnorm but it didnt do anything, so now im on domperidone and elavil, does anyone know how long it takes these meds to work? thanx mike

I took elavil for over a year and every few weeks the doc would up the dosage. It never helped me. I also took Zelnorm and it did nothing for me. My gastro adjusted the dosage above the FDA approved amount and it still did nothing! I never tried domperidone so I can't comment on that.

Well, you shouldn't have been on Zelnorm in the first place - it's only for women - so that might be why that didn't work. Jeez, I hate doctors sometimes, they're so freaking ignorant.

Elavil being an antidepressant, I think you technically have to be on them as long as a couple months before you decide that they're not doing anything for you.

Actually, Casey, I believe they expanded Zelnorm so it's for men now, too. The latest commercials also show men's bellies!

My doctor told me that Zelnorm has been approved for men.

Also, elavil is constipating, extremly constipating. It is usually given to people with IBS because it is helpful for pain, but for me, the pain of constipation is the worst. So, I stopped the elavil.

Hi Mike, you *never* have an urge to go?! Something has to
happen sometime. So, I guess then you are C. Elavil is for
people who have D, it will worsen your C. It could be killing
your urges to go. I can tell you from experience, Zelnorm is
not a good idea for men, especially considering it works by
manipulating female hormone levels. I never heard of domperidone. You can do a google search and check it out.

Zelnorm has been approved for men, but NOT for men with IBS. If Mike28's doctor is diagnosing him with IBS, he shouldn't be giving him Zelnorm. If he's giving him Zelnorm, he shouldn't be diagnosing him with IBS.

Those Zelnorm ads are misleading and doctors are prescribing this for any type of constipation, which is negligent, IMHO.
