i almost feel like i'm famous, having ibs in the paper.

you can get a free log-in to read it - it's in the science times if you're reading the paper in hard copy.
it's a really interesting article. touches on ibs, especially a, and seratonin. says ibs is one of the most debilitating gut disorders. damn straight. i like having this bit of times-sanctioned proof that it's more than an over-sensitive stomach, and not all in my head.
and at least for me, having a clear, scientific explanation of why stress causes d is comforting. i like being able to understand the mechanisms of what's happening in my body. even if i can't control it, at least i understand what's happening and it's not some mysterious out-of-nowhere sick.

Hi Jaime, Yeah, that is a pretty good article, just read it. I see Gershon is a fan of SSRI's, and the argument sounds pretty sound to me. Interestingly enough, I've been having better BM's the last four days in a row, and it's coming on one month that I've been taking Paxil, the supposed time when it's supposed to kick in. That would be wonderful if it is. Thanks for pointing out the article. -Bob

It's an interesting article, and this part caught my eye:
Quote:
Stress can also overstimulate nerves in the esophagus, causing a feeling of choking.
