Hi everyone!
I haven't been here for awhile, which is a good thing! I know I may have annoyed many of you with all my posts, and on the other hand, some of you became great friends and comforts to me.. so I wanted to update you all on how I've been doing.
I went back up to Santa Cruz (was staying with my parents in L.A.) and was only going to stay there for 10 days, to say goodbye to my friends, boyfriend, move my stuff, etc. As some of you may know I lived there for 7 years, and about 6 months ago went through a breakup which caused me to have an emotional break-down, followed by tons of tummy pains, BMs, and an EXTREME fixation on what my digestive system was doing, causing me further anxiety and depression. It got to the point where I was hardly eating or leaving the house. So I came to L.A. to chill out before going back to SC this last time... the last time I was in L.A., about 2 mnths ago, I was writing on the board all the time and hardly leaving the house. Well, the day before I went back up to SC, I think my Lexapro started to kick in, and I tried Immodium, which both helped me realize I have some control over my IBS. After that I was able to go out a lot. I went back up to SC and ended up staying for a month and a half, to spend time with my boyfriend and friends... I was able to go on a trip to big sur for two days and tahoe for 5 days! It was amazing! And the thing is, my whole time in SC, my digestion was much worse than ever before, but I stopped caring! I just went on with my life, went out to dinner all the time, ate pretty much whatever I wanted, and dealt with the consequences! That being said, my IBS is nowhere near as bad as some of the people on here's... but it's still annoying.
I guess I started feeling better when I started to gain a little weight back, and realized that I lost weight because I wasn't eating enough, not because I was really sick.
Also, I went to see an Aruyvedic doctor. She took my pulse and listened to what I have going on, and she told me that everything I was going through was caused by fear. That basically it was an emotional imbalance causing my physical imbalance. She told me to eat all cooked foods, and not too much meat because my body is not digesting it. She also told me I can eat some dairy, like kefir and yogrut, and I'm doing fine with it. I like other systems of medicine, like CHinese and Indian, as they have a different take on IBS and explain it on a deeper more holisitc level.
Anyway, I've just been feeling a lot better lately. The anti-depressants have really helped me, and I am more motivated than ever and really living my life. I got hired for two jobs in the week I've been back in L.A., and accepted one of them. I also will be starting grad school in 3 weeks. I'm going back up to SC for 3 weddings and will probably be traveling a little as well. My boyfriend is coming to stay with me tomorrow, I'm stoked! So things are working out well.
Just wanted to fill you all in! Hope everyone is well, let me know how you are doing!
Infinite love,
Heather
