I noticed (or it seems) like a lot of people on here who have IBS, feel the pain or aggrivation immediately after they consume something that upsets their stomach. My problems aren't clear cut like that; My cronic stomach aches and constipation just stay the same every day. Does this still sound like IBS, and could it be that severe if you haven't started on a plan? If that sounds like IBS still, how long do you think it would take on average, to see any kind of improvement? I'm also taking Benefiber (sugar free) with the only ingredeant being Guar Gum. It hasn't helped yet... but I've only been taking it for seven days so far.

Anyway to give a quick guide, I've already seen specialists about:Celiac / Spastic Colon / proctitus, and I've had a berium enema and colonoscopy done. The only thing I can think of is IBS, and I'm hoping it is because its going on 8 months now and I have enough pain that makes me want to pass out at work. (Another symptom of IBS? Fatique?).

Thanks again everyone,
Chris.

Doesn't sugar free Benefiber also contain artificial sweeteners? Or is that only sugar free Citrucel?

I think general pain is pretty typical when you're totally unstable. When you become more stable, there are more good, pain-free bits so it's easier to pinpoint when attacks start, rather than it just being like one continuous attack.

Try the peppermint caps for the pain.

Fatigue is NOT a symptom of IBS...however IBS attacks are pretty fatiguing, so if you're really bad, you're likely to feel completely run down.

Make sure you have the non-GI stuff, eg. gyno stuff, checked out too.

My pain and constipation are chronic too, not triggered by after eating anything particular. I could eat the same food everyday and have varying amounts of pain and constipation ...food doesn't cause an immediate reaction for me. There are a lot of us who have steady, chronic pain,,,not just after eating a specific food. So, yes, you could have IBS with this type of chronic, constant pain and constipation.

My pain culprit is not clear cut...stress and anxiety, lack of sleep, heat, amount of exercise may also have some say in all this. Who knows. I just wanted to tell you that you are not alone with your particular situation.

And for me, fatigue is a symptom of IBS...are bodies get tired from dealing with chronic pain and constipation. The chronic pain is a huge stress to our bodies and wears us out...not to mentional the emotional distress that also is energy zapping.

I'm not a good one to give you any time frame on finding relief. I've been trying for over a year and I am not having any reduction in any symptoms...in fact, I think I am worsening as my emotional state gets more worn down. As the emotions get worn down, the tummy acts up more.

You'll probably have better luck than I, though. You are taking a SFS which can help lots. I just can't tolerate them, unfortunately. 7 days is not enough time to get a good effective dose or relief from the Benefiber though. So, don't give it up...it takes a while. Good Luck! Your in the right direction!

Chris just meant it didn't contain any sugar, because he/she said it only contained the guar gum...that's just the powderd Benefiber...they don't put sugar or sugar substitutes in it.

Thank you again everyone, you've been a big help to me! I will continue to try the diet and stick with the benefiber. I was considering switching to the supplement thats advertised here, but wasn't sure how much more effective it could be.

Another thing that I just thought of and forgot to mention:

I work at a job where I am required to do alot of bending over/crouching and lift things. I don't lift heavy merchandise, but I found that doing that repeatedily makes the abdominal pain much, much worse. I don't think my pants are too tight or anything, but could this be a symptom of bloating/digestive problems? Just another thing on the list that I wanted to check with you guys on.
