My dr recommended AD's but I am not sure that they are needed. Are AD's and anxiety meds the same?

My issue, along with many, is that I get nervous and worried about long drives, visiting unfamiliar places, flying, not knowing where bathrooms are, etc. The more I stress, the more I need to use the bathroom. Even just thinking about it makes me nervous. Is that what the AD's are taken for or is it for more severe symptoms?

My boyfriend wants to go camping---a 5 hr drive away!

Nope, not the same, but a-d's can help lower your base anxiety level and help you cope better.

A-d's is actually a misnomer now as they are used for alot of pain disorders.

Thanks Linz for response. I guess the name 'AD' just throws me off.

Its weird that I can get more info and help on this site then from my own dr.

Ad's aren't just for depression anymore! They are very helpful for many people with differnt "disorders" such as IBS or other pain conditions.

If your IBS is not a major issue most of the time and your anxiety/stress is situational only, I'd be inclined to try something I can take when I need it, rather than all the time - for example, Immodium or one of the anti-spasmodics. My Family Practitioner even suggested I try Valium or Xanax.

I can't even begin to explain what a difference Lexapro?celexa has made for me. Before, I couldn't leave to go anywhere in the AM, even if I knew there would be a bathroom and if I did, I had to use it immediately. Now, I can go to the store and not use it at all. With the AD, for my anxiety, and this diet my world has changed. I'm sure it's going to be different for everyone, but for me, it worked. Alyson
