I've seen messages about Miralax so I was wondering how new is it? I never heard of it. Is it only for c or does it help other symtoms as well? Does it have any side effects? Thanks.

Hi - for technical info your best bet is to do a google search. That will give you actual product info, risks, side effects, etc.

I take Mira Lax everyday. biggest side effect is gas! I think its been around for a few years, I do believe your bowels become lazier or dependant on it, for I do not have a BM without it! If a miss a day, the next day I will be constipated. For me though, it seems to be the best solution to a lifetime of severe constiaption.

I wouldn't be able to take it since I have very severe gas. Darn it!

It also can cause bloating, nausea, cramps! Yikes! I wish I could take it but all those side effects you can get I already have them and they are severe! I wish I could take it since I have severe c. Everyday I'm so scared that I will have c. It's pure torture since I have it severe.

I've always been uncomfortable talking about my GI experiences , and the consequence was that I went undiagnosed for a decade , but I guess this would be the place to "get graphic" , or at least specific, so here goes:
I have chronic C (which if lasts too long, ends with a very sudden and urgent flushing-out of my system ... something close to D -- loose with severe cramping, but not watery; I have a similar experience, though not as extreme, if I overdo insoluble fiber in my diet).
Well, I tried MiraLax this week. I took it for five days (Friday through Tuesday). Each day, I experienced mild nausea (never an IBS symptom for me), "rumbling" or "gurgling" in my belly (not one of my symptoms since I eliminated gassy foods from my diet seven years ago), flatulance (not too common for me, except sometimes mildly at the beginning of my menstrual period), and EXTREME bloating (so much worse than usual -- I actually imagined getting stretch marks Tuesday night! ). On Tuesday and Wednesday after waking up, I had unhealthy BMs (loose and crampy, but the cramping was different than I've previously felt, and from a different place, I think).
I recently received the helpful suggestion (thanks, NewYrsBB/Meg and michele!) to decrease the dose if I were to experience side-effects, but after my experience -- and especially because I don't want to become dependent on it, I decided to discontinue altogether.
I sincerely hope I'll be able to "retrain" my bowel naturally through diet and relaxation.
