I am new to this site and find it helpful. I have had stomach problems all of my life and realized years ago that I cannot eat dairy products. For the past 3 weeks I have had such pain, bloating and diarreah. I feel like I need to go even when I can't. I guess that means diarreah and constipation at the same time. I am miserable. Everything I eat goes through me so I haven't been eating at all. I can't go anywhere or do anything. When I do eat it does not seem to be digesting. I only eat crackers or toast. I also have acid reflux at night and bad heartburn. I don't know what to do anymore. I see all the sites about IBS saying to eat rice, bread, and pasta.

It is good to know I am not alone with this embarrassing problem. I do not have medical insurance and have put off seeing a doctor but have read up on Crohn's, Colitis, and IBS. My Mom has had all of the tests for her stomach and she does take meds as well as watch her diet. I do not do well with any kind of drug so I was wondering what my options are? Any drug free help?
Thank you

Hi Tinam -

Welcome to the boards. I understand your wanting to not go to the doctor. When I was originally diagnosed, my doctor kept giving me pills that only made my symptoms worse.

I ran across Heather's site and told my husband I was gonna try her diet for one month. If that didn't work I was going back to the doctor (I haven't been back)I don't suggest this - I merely understand your frustration.

The best way to start your feeling better to is to break the cycle, as Heather calls it. You should read up on the site about it. Sorry other posters know how to attach a link here to help you out - I am not so lucky to know how to do that LOL.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

I am sure you will become very comfortable here. Feel free to post all your questions, everyone is very helpful and caring.

Again, welcome.

Tinam--I am a proponent of going drug-free too. I am unable to tolerate many medications. That's one of things that drew me to Heather's diet and this website--the solutions are not all drug-oriented. You will find help and support here. Good luck!

Hi - On the home page of the forum, here web page you'll see a list of links in the blue box for the Eating for IBS diet board. Follow those to the diet guidelines, breaking the cycle info, etc. That will get you started, then just ask any questions you have.
