Does anyone know if watermelon soluble or insoluble fiber? And what about whole grain cereal such as honey nut cheerios? I am under the impression that the "melon" family is insoluble. I am trying to incorporate IF into my diet but I have a hard time with peels on things such as apples, pears- I do eat a 4oz cup of applesauce daily though. And I eat carrots- the canned kind. Am I getting IF?

Not from applesauce and tinned carrots! Try having something like pasta or risotto and whizzing some zucchini in the blender before cooking it and adding it...I've found it one of the safest non-SF (lots of SF in the flesh) veggies. You ARE always having IF safely, aren't you?
Whole grain cereals will be quite high in IF.
Watermelon I don't know about.

I usually add a tbsp of IF into my cereal (I was using Fiber One until I found out it had HFCS in it so now I add Kashi grains - but I think wheat germ would work or somehting like that). Casper

Do a search on the Honey Nut Cheerios; I asked that question on the boards a little while back and I think we came up with SF.
Applesauce will count as SF. Apples with the peel on it will be IF.

HNC are soluble for the most part (and yes I am eating a bowl as I write. ). They have some ground nuts but very little and the whole grain is oats so that is okay. Watermelon and other melons are IF but I find for me they are some harder to tolerate IF. Something like peaches are easier to digest. For me a big bowl of melon is the most touchy of fruits to eat (unfortunately some of my favorite) Remember the mash rule: if it mashes it is SF if not it is IF. I like putting dried fruit in oatmeal or baked goods to add IF.

"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
