Hi,
New to board, I just found FirstYear IBS 3 days ago at the Skagit Valley Co-op and I am so happy. I was reading it in bed crying I cann't believe after suffering for over 15 years with IBS that I have finally found something that makes sense. I have tried everything from acupuncute, colonic, naturopathic med. hypnotherpy, you name I have tried it spent thousands of dollars.they all told me I needed more fiber in my diet and one even told me to go on a raw food diet nothing cooked that one almost killed me and than I was told it was because I was a women and had more parts down there. I just want to say I am so happy to have found this book and cann't wait to start cooking this new way. The only problem is my husband is Diabetic and wants 30 grams of fiber a day in his diet lots of veggies whole grain cereal/bread fresh fruit so it is going to be a balancing act to fit both dietary needs for both of us in the same house any sugustions on that Thanks you again for this wonderful wed site and book
Anita

Welcome to the board! Many of us feel as you do - it's a miracle that we found Heather and her website/books. One suggestion - it sounds like you are VERY sure you have IBS, but it is really a good idea to get a GI specialist's diagnosis. It's important to rule out Crohn's, Colitis, and a bunch of other things that have the symptoms that mimic IBS. It sounds like you've outruled several things, but nevertheless, it's safer to be sure. A proper diagnosis is crucial to handling the problem. If you have any questions, be sure to hit the search button and see if it's been discussed. Lots of helpful info on this site.

Heather is coming to Skagit Valley Co-op - not sure when but sometime this fall. We live in the valley also.
We can sympathize with you. I went on a weight watchers diet and since my husband's dr said to eat fiber, he was eating salads and lots of fresh vegetables and fruit along with me. He rapidly went downhill and after a few months, we got desperate. That's when we found Heather's website.
We now know the emergency room doctors because when he would have an attack, it would get worse each day until he would have a day of vomiting for HOURS AND HOURS until (often times) we would have to take him to the emer. room to get it stopped.
This diet works! We still have some bad days if he strays.
We are challenged also because I want to maintain my weight loss and keep him well. I make sure I have what I need and he can eat some of my food if he gets his soluble fiber in place first.
