I thought maybe my thyroid was acting up. I would eat lunch and could not keep my eyes open. It felt like someone had drugged me. I had blood work done and everything was fine. I am a little enemic but nothing new there I have been for as long as I can remember. But I noticed that when I eat rice or noodles for lunch (which I do alot because they are safe for me when I work evenings) I can not stay awake. I have been trying not to eat those for lunch and it has been helping. Does anyone notice this with them? and Does anyone have any suggestions? I have heard that high carbs give a boost of energy and then the sugar level drops fast which makes you very sleepy. Please help if you can I am very frustrated. Thank you for any input!

..carbs helped the slow release of blood sugar....but I might be wrong. I used to get that when I ate a bit too much sugar or fat?! What kind of carbs are you eating?

The rice and noodles are long-chain carbohydrates, not short-chain ones like sugar - which give you the high and then the low effect you're talking about. But Nelly's right, carbs will make you sleepy...try having more protein and veg with them.

use your soluble fiber foundation foods (which are typically complex carbs) as a base to add in safe proteins and also small amounts of heart-healthy fats. That will keep you more alert, and also will keep you feeling full longer than a meal of nothing but carbs.
