Any suggestions for keeping the gassy gut gremlins at bay at night? I'm finding that this is my bad time and I can lie awake for hours feeling as though there is a snake dancing in my tummy! I get really anxous and neurotic and even herbal sleepers don't work. I also get sore backache which must be the IBS. Incidentally I have the constipation type and can feel everything moving very slowly through my insides causing havoc all the way! I have started taking control and have studied the guidelines. One of the things I think I am doing wrong is drinking a large mug of tea in the evenings. This will stop immediatly! Has any friendly person got any ideas as i have no-one to talk to. My doctor looks at me pityingly and says how well I 'manage' my IBS.

I'm sure you'll get lots of other helpful replies, but I find what helps me personally, is a mug of fennel tea before I go to bed, and making sure I don't eat after 7pm. Another great one is a hot water bottle or a heat pad on the grumbly bits of your stomach really calms me and my stomach down. Try a bit of relaxation before you go to bed too - works a treat!

Have you tried fennel tea to keep the gas at bay? Crush up a teaspoon of fennel in a tea strainer and steep in a mug of boiling water. It's excellent for gas. Try that instead of your regular evening tea. Try drinking it right after supper. It should help.
