FYI - just wanted to let everyone know there's a very informative article on rice in the August Martha Stewart Living magazine. It's great because there are several types of rice I wanted to try, but wasn't sure about the taste.
I recently tried a Thai sticky rice and it was great with cooked chicken & carrots - I usually add Oyster sauce. Makes a great lunch to take to work - just pop in the microwave!
Have a good day

Thanks Leah, I don't want to get too tired of Jasmine Rice (which I love but that's all I seem to eat for lack of trying others).

Leah: I LOVE it, it's got a fragrant, nutty flavor. It smells wonderful when it's cooking, the whole house smells so good. I'm able to eat it w/o anything on it besides a little butter spray and it has a really great taste. I'm surprised they didn't mention it in the MS magazine. I get mine at the health food store, but it's also at the regular market and Trader Joes.

Have you tried Sushi rice? I had always just had Minute Rice (yek) but got a rice cooker for Chirstmas (I love it, would recommend one to everyone, so easy to make perfect rice!!)Anyway...once I got the cooker I tried different rices and found that the sushi rice was my favorite. You can get it at the grocery store or much cheaper at an Asian market. Has a perfect light flavor, (is sticky and filling) I rarely add anything to it.

Another rice idea I heard was to use chicken broth instead of water when cooking the rice to give it flavor. I haven't tried it because I am a vegetarian, but thought it sounded interesting.

Take Care!

Hi Josie - thanks for the idea, no, I haven't tried Sushi rice yet - never knew there were so many types of rice !!
I like the idea of the chicken broth as well, I'll try that.
Have a great day.

You can also use vegetable broth to cook the rice in if you're a vegetarian. I substitute v-broth for c-broth all of the time. I get mine powdered at the health food store, just add water.
