I mash up black beans all the time and use them like in sandwiches or with chips like a bean dip. I buy them in the can, check the ingredients make sure they are just beans and salt, I rinse them, then I usually add some dry cilantro, salt and pepper, microwave them and then mash them up.

My chickpeas have added kombu seaweed to them in addition to the beans, water, and salt. They are Eden Organics brand. Is that safe?

probably okay, I am not familiar with types of seaweed, but most organic stuff is usually okay. They are probably okay. I was more referring to non organic regular canned beans that sometimes add MSG or high fructose corn syrup, or pork products, etc.

Just curious, what brand do you usually buy.I am just starting to add this to my diet but don't know what brands or types of beans are the easiest to start with or what brands are safe.

I never heard of this seaweed either, but someone recommended Edens brand beans in anoter post.

Now, I just need to figure out what to do with them! Time to visit the recipe board!

to tell you the truth, I am not sure what brand I buy. I just recognize it my the color of the label and grab them and throw them in my shopping basket. They come in a black can with some blue writing at any regular grocery store, they aren't organic. I am very bad at just recognizing what i need and not knowing the brand. I don't have any in my cupboard right now, so I can't tell you.

But just read the ingredients in the bean isle at the grocery store. I only buy ones that say beans, water, salt.

At least, I've never had any problems with it... it's in some of the organic noodles I buy from the HFS. It should be fine!

I buy Westbrae a LOT...oh so yummy, organic, and great for my tummy! LOL There is a brand called Eden but their stuff isn't Kosher so I don['t buy it. But I know thier stuff is good in terms of organic quality.

Good luck! *hugs*
