Well I hate to speak too soon but here goes. I was on a course of antibiotics (Flagyl) for a vaginal infection several weeks ago. Since then, I've been experiencing little to no IBS symptoms. I have been eating pizza and regular mayo and and all the foods that normally would cause agony for me! I was also getting sick from "safe" foods like sushi and pasta before the antibiotics. It has been 2 weeks that i've been symptom free after a year of constantly feeling sick. I don't doubt that i still have some form of very mild IBS, but could it have been a bacterial overgrowth that caused it to become increasingly unmanagable as each week passed?

Interesting. My IBS started after a parasitic infection that I got last November in Nicaragua. When I was on Flagyl (did I spell that right), I could eat ok as it was killing the parasite. Afterwards the IBS started and has not left and probably won't. Sounds like you had some kind of infection going on: bacterial, parasitic or an amoeba (I cannot spell today! It's too early!) You should consult your doctor, either your GI or an infectious disease doctor and see what he/she says. I hope you are cured! Mine is the reverse situation and it stinks! Best of luck. Leah

Hi - I'm going to be posting some articles in the library about bacterial overgrowth, antibiotics, and IBS. Check the general section later today or tomorrow.
Best, Heather
