I just don't understand something I'm new. Ok if your constipated they recommend a high fiber diet usually. Yet heather recommends most foods that don't have a high fiber content such as white bread.Does anyone else deal with ww bread ok? I seem fine with that. Also I read someone said lentils are soothing to others find that? Like I can't eat beans well I don't think. It may have been the spices.See I'm sort of confused though I think I need to limit my raw fruit and veggies consumption that maybe causing a lot of pain.Oh yeah sorry one more even when I do have a bm I still feel not clean any ideas? Thanks sorry for so many ?'s.

I'll try to answer your questions...

1st of all, I have a question for you... When you say ww bread, do you mean weight watchers? The reason I ask, is most plain "white" bread that's bought in the grocery store and not made in a bakery, has HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) in it which is a common trigger for IBS. You'll want to carefully read labels before purchasing anything bought at the grocery store. Along with HFCS, sometimes they sneak in dairy derivatives such as casein or whey.

Heathers recommendations call for a diet that's high in soluble fiber for both C (constipation) and D (diarrhea). You find this in things like pasta, potatoes, rice, oatmeal, etc. Did you see her list? soluble fiber list It's still important however, for people with C, to also consume as many insolubles ( web page ) as your body will tolerate, after consuming a good amount of soluble fiber (the idea being that you sort of "cushion" your tummy to help digest the insolubles). Eating the right portion of insoluble fiber in a safe manner, along with plenty of water and excercise, should help your C get better. The trick is to figure out what's going to work for you.

First thing you need to do is break the cylce . Then once you've settled your tummy down, you can go on to slowly adding other things in such as insolubles. C in my opinion is a little more tricky. Unfortunately it's hard to distinguish what works and what doesn't, so it's a good idea to start a journal and pay close attention to your body's reaction.

Now, for your other questions... I personally can not handle beans, regardless of the type. Everyone is different though, so what might work for someone else, may not for you. And I'm not positive about the spices, but I don't think they should be a problem for your IBS.

When you say that you don't feel clean, do you mean that you feel like you haven't completely emptied or is it something else? If it is, it's a very common symptom for C'ers. So you're not alone on that.

I hope I've successfully helped in answering your quesions. Feel free to ask more. We're alsways here to help.

Good luck!

Hi,
I am dealing with the same apparent contradiction. I tried to really increase the soluble fibers a couple weeks ago in order to get the gas under control. Before I was a psycho about only having whole grains, which I love, and am convinced that they are infinitely better for you. Since, I have been majorly C. So, I think I am switching back. The C makes me feel even worse and so bloated with trapped gas. I was definitely confused and still am a little cause white breads and all dont even list that they have any fiber. I have tried 2 kinds of white bread and hate it, it tastes like little kids food, like little debbie cakes or something! Since i have gone back to my favorite Kashi and Optimum Power Breakfast and wheat, I have gone to the bathroom, albeit with a bit of effort involved. So, I know this isnt the answer. But i guess if youre having huge gas maybe go with the soluble, but if you ahve C, go with insoluble. I think the idea also is to mix the two, like add in insoluble with soluble and that should be ok.

I've got IBS-C, too. I don't eat whole wheat bread, but I do eat a combo bread. With my bread machine, I make a loaf with white flour, wheat flour, and oatmeal. I seem to do fine with that. White bread is constipating, I think. I also try to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables & to eat brown rice or white & brown rice mixed together.

I feel better on Heather's diet, but it has not been a "cure all" for my C. I've decided to go ahead and take Miralax. I drink a capful in 8 oz water or juice every morning before breakfast. (I read it works better in the a.m.) I've had a bm just about every day since starting this routine with the Miralax.

Here's a link explaining why things like white bread are your friend in constipation NOT the enemy. Soluble fiber foods like white bread, help to ease constipation. Here's how: web page
The next thing that's critical for constipation is a soluble fibre supplement. Yes, it's the same "kind" of fibre that is in white bread - soluble fibre. Bet ya didn't know that! The whole idea that white bread etc is constipating is a myth! Soluble fibre supplements will really help ease your constipation. Try acacia, benefiber, equalactin, citrucel. Start with a very small dose and slowly work your way up. IT is still really important to get your insoluble fiber as well. Don't stick only to "starches". You need to find the right balance of soluble and insoluble fiber to ease the constipation.
