I read in a magazine that eating 1 tbsp. parsley daily will get rid of water retention but it tastes gross so I was wondering how much I can have when I make parsley tea since it said not to eat more that 1 tbsp. or it can dehydrate you. Should I just brew 1 tbsp. daily?

A word of caution regarding parsley new

Hi Angel, Please take a moment to read this rather long explanation. Just a word of caution regarding parsley! I am one of those unfortunate people who is a "stone former" (kidney stones) in addition to being blessed with IBS. I started forming stones at a very young age, with no family history. I thought kidney stones were something that happened to "old people". Then I experienced the UNBELIEVABLE PAIN of passing a stone. Most stones are made of calcium oxalate. Oxalates come from some of the foods that we eat. Some of the highest containing oxalate foods are spinach, strawberries, wheat bran, rhubarb, nuts, beet greens, chocolate, and PARSLEY. Eating these foods in normal amounts will probably not cause trouble for most people. However, brewing parsley into a tea can super concentrate it. If you drink this frequently, on a daily basis, you could be consuming a huge amount of oxalates. When you combine this with the dehydration often caused by IBS D (parsley itself can contribute to dehydration as well), you could be setting the stage to form kidney stones. Seasoning your food with a small amount of parsley is fine. Not everyone forms kidney stones, but how do you know if you might? Believe me, I never thought I would. Why take the chance with something you can so easily avoid? Best of luck, I hope this info helps you or someone else. artist P.S. A little hot water with lemon helps with water retention.

What am suppose to do then? I retain every drop of water I put in my mouth. My stomach is so heavy and huge I can hardly walk. It's that bad. Are you sure adding lemon will actually help? I'll start adding lemon in my tea then. How much can I use per cup? I never heard of that helping with water retention. My stomach is also huge from all the water retention. Thanks for the info. I'm so sorry you had stones. It's so scary. God Bless

Angel, I don't think we have talked before so, HI! Are you IBS D? For me, what really helps with water retention is to AVOID salt, MSG, alcohol and actually drink MORE water (this helps to flush your system). One question though, are you sure your bloated belly is from water retention? If it is water retention, other parts of your body would be swollen as well, like your hands, feet, etc. I am more IBS-C and my stomach can get very bloated, almost like I am pregnant. For me, this is caused by gas usually as a result of eating dairy (a HUGE no-no for me) or fatty foods. If it is just your belly that is swollen, maybe it isn't water retention? Just a thought. Artist P.S. Don't go overboard with the lemon, it is acidic and if you are IBS-D it you might be sensitive, just a squeeze!
