I have been following the diet for 2 1/2 months now, and have had much improvement regarding pain, discomfort and spasms. However, even though I am eating cooked veggies with meals, find that I am still very 'C'. I use Benefiber as a SFS, which very occasionally helps. What else should I be doing.... is it time to add raw veggies slowly?
Also, I find that I am still chronically tired a lot. Is this because I am eating low fat ... and fats give you energy?

Have you tried Acacia?? It has really helped me and I am C. It works much better than the SFS. These help some but I see my best results with the Acacia. Also can you get stool softners? I take two of these at night before bed. That's also when I take my greated amount of Acacia.

I had tried one type of stool softener, but it didn't help me..... just made me feel uncomfortable/upset. What is the name of the one you are taking? Thanks for your response.

I've been on the diet only a few weeks. I need to take miralax to go still. It's not my first choice but it helps.

Yeah I'd say try adding in some fruit and raw veggies, only a little at first. Try putting some lettuce on your sandwhiches, or a small salad, an apple unpeeled. Personally since being on an SFS, I'm able to eat fruits and veggies(I try not to overdo the raw, but still am able to have them).

How much Benefiber are you taking? Maybe you need to keep increasing.
Most people use Colace stool softener I believe. That's the one I'm trying.
GL I am in same position as you! I am thinking of trying acacia over the citrucel or even trying metamucil as other C people find they need the psylium to push things out. I heard that if you take it at night, the bloating occurs during the night so you don't notice it as much, then have the BM in morning. Never tried it, just passing on info someone gave me.

Do IBS'ers tend to be much more tired than most people. I find that by 9 p.m. every night, I can't keep my eyes open....very tired. Is it symptomatic of this illness?

I definately have fatigue, barely able to stay alert at work and ready for bed by 9 also. Always thought it was the meds I was on, which it may be. I always wake up in the middle of the night and early am so that could be the reason as well!
The IBS certainly can have fatigue as a side effect, I believe. Please others correct me if I am wrong.
What about the fiber KimGun? How much are you taking?

Beth... I am taking 2 tablespoons of the Benefiber...which is the recommended dose, I believe. Had tried Metamucil before, and it did not help at all....made me terribly bloated and uncomfortable. Am thinking to try the Acacia next..... have you tried this? As to the fatigue..... I also wake up very early..... 5-5:30 a.m..... and sometimes before also. I did not have this tiredness before I developed IBS..... about 4 years ago. Prior to this, I was so full of energy ....used to accomplish so much. Now I am simply too tired. Thanks for your input.

for a SFS im taking FiberCon which seems to work pretty well. right now in only taking three so its not as much as i probably should be taking. and also--i eat alot of foods that are lowfat like my soymilk or soups or oatmeal--i find it easier to deal with the illness if i can still control one part of my eating. i havent really noticed any lack of energy as far as eating LF goes but sometimes i snack on some riskier HF foods---which i usually hate myself for later as the result is usually sharp and hard pain. sometimes i get tired. what other meals or foods are you eating that are lowfat that youre concerned about? im an IBS-Cer too

Well my diet is very low fat.... no soy milk (only because I don't really like it), cook without veggie oil or fat most of the time... only eat chicken breast and seafood, etc. Just wondered if this is contributing to my listlessness?
