I find myself "gulping" or swallowing air, especially in the morning when I wake up. Maybe this is not IBS related, but I tend to associate any gas or GI irregularity to IBS? I don't chew gum or suck on hard candy or do any of the other habits that would cause air swallowing. Anyone have this or think it's IBS related?

Yep! Especially after my first hot drink (even if it's decaf soy tea!). It's kind of like hic-cups only not really. Like you said, gulping. I don't do it every day but it definately happens. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your input. I was wondering if this what yet just another one of the multitude of symptoms IBS can cause or if some new problem had crept into my life!

I don't know if you've had a gastroscopy but I have and suffer from reflux (which is apparantly very common according to my doctor) so I assumed it had something to do with that. It kinda sux really cause every time it happens you know your adding to your problems!

Does that mean you can't do peppermint tea because I drink a that. Didn't think I had reflux, just air gulping. Never had that test you mentioned and I thought I had them all!

Hey! Gastroscopy was one of the first tests I had when I started going to doctors about tummy pain. It's where they test you for coeliac (sp?) disease with a tube that goes down your throat and see's if the hairs are standing up or not. I found out then. Apparantly the flap in my throat that keeps food down doesn't work. Technically they say you shouldn't drink peppermint tea when you have it but I don't have a problem. I even take a mug to bed with me sometimes and don't have any trouble (I spend all night running to the loo though ) Maybe ask your doctor about it, I noticed in another thread you weren't sure if you had gluten intolerance or not so maybe he/she would know?
