It seems like all this white rice is bad for constipation. But I've heard that brown rice is bad for IBS. So, I'm confused. Can someone help with all this white food question. I know it's been talked about in the past but do most of you IBS-C people eat white or brown rice?
Are other rices okay to try: Japinico, or Forbidden Rice by Lotus.
What rice do most IBS-C people choose? I just seem to be getting more and more constipated on this white rice and white rice noodles, and white bread (GF). Any thoughts?
Is the forbidden rice safe?

hey there...I don't know what forbidden rice is BUT...I find white rice extremley constipating when I am C and very binding when I am loose. I eat brown rice most of the time...I love it.

so many people say to stay away from brown rice and that white rice is safe. Do other IBS-C people eat the brown rice too? Once again, I am confused!

not a c'er - A'er instead, but I do regular rice and when I'm leaning towards C I eat more veggies with it and other insoluble fiber..

For me, an inveterate C-type, NO to white rice, YES to brown rice. In fact, I can do most whole grains; they provide the much needed insoluble fiber that keeps us going (you should pardon the expression).
I sometimes get a little frustrated with the thinking that foods are "forbidden". My sense about this diet is that these are the suggestions that Heather and many others can give from their own trial and error. But we all need to do our own trials and errors to see what works for our own individual bodies.

I'm a C'er and brown rice gives me the "gurgles", so I try to stick to white rice. I have found though, that pasta goes really well with me, especially with some really really cooked and pureed veggies mixed in with it.

By regular rice do you mean some form of white rice, like jasmine, or white converted, etc.?

How often can you have white rice without it constipating you? Also, what types of veggies do you puree for your pasta?
Thanks!

I personally don't prefer white rice anyway, so I don't eat it much more than once a week. With the pasta, Heather has a recipe in one of her books, "The First Year, IBS", called Lemon and Asparagus pasta. That's my favorite. I think any veggie would work though. Just cook it up so it's well done, and puree it in a blender. I'm not sure about what kind of herbs or spices would go with any other veggie, but I think it could be easily figured out. Just do some experimenting... as long as it's cooked well and pureed, you shouldn't have any problem with it. If you like asparagus though, you should try Heather's recipe. YUM!

hey there, just wanted to add a note that all the white rice / pasta / bread doesn't work for me (IBS C). Need more of the wholegrains. Brown rice works for me and cooked veggies. The biggest thing for me though is to have small portions. Big portions just hurt my tummy (evil bloating sets in). Not regular though and don't have any magical tips - yet (still working on it...).
