I just received an Energy Times magazine in the mail (June 2003 issue) and came across the following article and wanted to share it with each of you:
Identifying IBS In your excellent article "Don't Be Irritable" on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in the April issue, you might have mentioned that IBS is fast becoming a catch-all phrase too often used by physicians, particularly with female patients. In my own case, "IBS" turned out to be celiac disease. My best friends was not so lucky; "diagnosed with IBS, she demanded further tests which ultimately identified the actual problem-pancreatic cancer. Readers would be well advised to remember that IBS is not a diagnosis, merely a name for a certain array of symptons. by: Barbara Fleming (Bradenton, Florida)

Far too many people are labeled with "IBS" without having any diagnostic tests run. This is not acceptable, and people have to speak up and insist that they're being properly diagnosed. If your first doctor doesn't listen, find another one. Your health is at stake.
