Is drinking ginger tea made from powdered ginger ok ?

Hi - It's okay in that it's safe to drink, but the ginger probably won't dissolve well at all. It's much better to get a chunk of fresh gingerroot, smash it, and brew it in a cup of hot water. You may be able to find dried gingerroot and brew that in a tea strainer.

if you live near an asian market you may be able to find a box of powdered ginger tea packets. I like fresh ginger better, but they dissolve well they are handy for when you're away from home. Dan

How exactly do you crush ginger? I tried with the back of a knife but it didn't quite work out.

Just take a chunk about the size of your thumb and whack it hard with the flat side of a big heavy knife (like a cleaver, or a chef's knife). No need to peel it.
