I took Bentyl for the last two days b/c I was going to work and wanted to see if it would stop me from going so much. (not D, just regular but too much) The last two days I've gotten D! And then had to take my other stuff to stop that b/c I was at work! I don't get it. I haven't been really really careful with diet but nothing different than I had been doing and I haven't gotten D is months!
Anyone have this happen? Sandy

I have been taking Zelnorm for a week - same- gives me "D". Someone told me that it took her two weeks for it to straighten out. After that she told me I should call my Doc. Did you look on the meds website for info? Also, I just started using Acacia and my system isn't used to hardly any SFS. But, today is certainly better than yesterday.

Yes D is definately a possible side effect of an antispasmodic (it's also a side effect of things like Zelnorm although it's not an antispasmodic)....seems like D is the side effect of everything these days doesn't it??
If it doesn't go away after a week or so then you should call your doc.
Good Luck!!

I'm IBS-C and the first dr I saw prescribed Bentyl to stop my painful colon spasms. I had to stop taking it because even though it helped my pain it made my C much worse. Bentyl should not cause D because it relaxes the colon, slowing down the muscle movement. Also, one of the side effects is C. It could have been stress from going back to work or something you ate.
Good luck
Steph:)

Then why would a doctor prescribe it for D? Is it just that your body needs some adjusting time. I don't take it every day. (maybe I should) but the prescription reads every 6 hours as needed.
Thanks, Sandy

Your doc prescribes it for D because once the initial side effects go away it will help stabalize you....antispasmodics are prescribed for both D and C...
The D should go away within a week....if it doesn't then you should call your doc....good luck!!
