Hey all,

I've been buying bulk psyllium from a healthfood store, and found it to be totally cheaper than fiber supplements. I just sprinkle or mix some in my food before I eat it.

I was a curious if there was a difference between the bulk and the supplement, so I asked a buddy who is finishing up his degree in Biochem. He concluded that there wasn't, he even suggested that the "real" organic form would be better than the supplement.

I'm curious if anyone has heard different, or has an opinion on the matter.

Cheers

Thor

Hey there! Some of the supplements (like Metamucil) finely grind the psyllium seed and then add other ingredients. If you buy psyllium in bulk you'll usually get the whole seed (though I've seen the ground powder too, at Whole Foods) and no added ingredients. Either way should be equally effective for IBS, so take your pick!

And yes, it is much cheaper to buy in bulk!
