Hi
I've just been diagnosed with IBS & have a follow up appointment with my GI doc on the 21st. My problems are as follows:
1} I hate hate hate to cook
2} I always feel hungry
3} Everything seems to bother my tummy to some degree.

My question is how do you I find out my trigger foods if everything seems to upset me. I'm IBS C so for a few days I tried sticking to the white bread pasta & rice. The gas seems to have subsided but now I'm backed up. If I try adding some veggies or fruit I'm afraid of what might happen. I'm really bad at sticking to any diet & sinc I hate to cook I really don't know what to eat! This is sooooo depressing! Is there ever going to be a time when I just don't notice my stomach?????????
Sorry for the whining but no one else understands.
thanks for listening
Meryl

Welcome, Meryl!! Glad you found us.

You need to keep a food diary. That's what Heather recommends and what I did long before I found Heather. Write down everything you eat and how you felt at the time (ie, stress level, emotions) then when you don't feel good you can look back over what you ate the past several days and try to identify what bothered you. Usually it's whatever you ate most recently, but sometimes something you ate two days ago set you up for an attack.

I know you said everything seems to bother you to some degree, but this should help you sort out the worst triggers. Once you eliminate them, you should be able to eat things that bother you now.

Hope this helps! And keep coming back! PS have you started a Soluble Fiber Supplement yet? Also, I hate to/can't cook and I've made it 8 months without an attack, so it can be done without cooking!!

Hey Laura,
thanks for the quick reply. I have started a diary but I was't putting down my emotions. I guess I'll start adding that. Since you don't like to cook either, what do you eat???

Hi Niki,
Yeah I did check that out & found out that raw veggies are my worst culprit. I also know that beans are way outta my league so I've been staying away from those. To be honest I'm not really having an attack per se, it's just that from the moment I wake up till the time I go to sleep, I feel bloated. I don't fit into any of my clothes anymore & it seems like I haven't felt "normal" in a long long time.
Thanks for listening
Meryl

I second LauraSue's answer, but... when adding foods to test them add them slowly, that way its easier to identify what caused the problem.. hope that helps some

Meryl - Just wanted to say welcome. Laurasue covered it all!. BTW are you taking any fiber supplements, i.e. Citricel, Benefiber, Acacia, etc.? They help a lot with the gas and bloating, because you are able to use the bathroom more regularly.

Welcome and keep coming back. The answer lies here, believe me! This is the best bunch of folk you would ever want to meet. Loving, Caring, Understanding - I could go on and on.

You will always find help here in one form or another.
