How to tell your friends & co-workers about IBS

I'm having a difficult time trying to figure out how to tell my friends and co-workers about my IBS-D. In the past I've vaguely alluded to the fact that sometimes I "get sick." But I believe most people assume that I just get stomach pains or feel like throwing up.

What's a good way to communicate that not only do I feel sick, but I'm also dependent on finding a bathroom (without dropping the D-word)? Thanks

I am a very open kind of gal. For some people I may be a little to open. But I just tell them I have stomach problems I am having test run and it is probably IBS ( I have found most people know what it is even if they don't understand it.) I tell them I have to use the Bathroom because somtimes food doesn't agree with me and I have use the restroom in a hurry. I usually tell them I have D but you didn't want to go there. Can't realy blame you
Thats where the almost to honest thing comes in for me.
Good luck

most people who know me well know I have stomach problems and that I often have to run to the can, I have never gone into more detail then that.. but they know when I say I have to go NOW I mean NOW... and that they'd better get out of the way.

Cough at appropriate times : ) worse yet is if they can smell you. I guess when we go into a public restroom, especially at work, stuff a little perfume bottle in your purse & give a good spray when you get in there. Do you always wonder if they are looking under the stall to see whose shoes are there?

I dunno.. I feel like everyone can hear diarrhea through the bathroom wall.. and my family always can at home.. whats to say everyone doesn't hear it while out to dinner.. or at friends houses. ugh.

I have always thought about that. If they notice the shoes in the stall. Ugh.
