I posted this yesterday. Maybe you will know what to do. I was told to take Midol (caffine-free) and Immodium to take for D and cramps when it is that time of the month. My question is if I take the Midol right away (before I get the cramps and D) will I have to take the Immodium as well? I would rather not take immodium unless I really need it. I'm just panicing because I am trying to prepare myself for the massive pain that I will (hopeully not) incounter tomorrow. I was thinking and also someone suggested to take the midol and only take the Immodium if needed. What do you suggest? Thanks!

Pain killers are best taken when you actually hurt. Immodium can be used as a preventative - if you're worried about getting C, then take a lower dose.

I always have pain when it is that time, atleast for the first two day or so, which is the only time I take them. Are you referring to the regular Immodium (half of the small one) or the large Advanced ones?

I find that the Midol acts as a muscle relaxant for my tummy so if I take that (or advil) then it prevents the D. That's just me though....good luck!!

Hi - My guess is the Midol and Immodium aren't going to be interchangeable. Midol should help prevent/relieve the cramps, and this might mitigate the diarrhea somewhat, but usually period-related diarrhea is actually caused by the prostagladins (hormones) from your period. Midol won't affect that much, if at all.

Thanks Heather. I actually took the Midol and the Immodium as a preventative last night (that is when the pain and D come and continue into the middle of the following day) and I had a regular bm this morning (I don't ever remember having a regular bm during this time) and I felt fine. I felt a little pain and I took a Midol. I feel normal, it's great! I am so happy that something works. I dread my period every month! I can't explain how happy I am! Thanks for your information.

Sweetd, that's GREAT!! I was just thinking, I kinda do the same thing, only with Aleve. It's the only thing that helps my menstrual cramps, but it always gives me D, just like you said. (I don't usually get D when I have my period, only when I take Aleve, so that's slightly different.) The past few months, I tried taking an Imodium along with the Aleve as a preventive, and it worked, NO D!!!
Glad you had success with your similar approach also!

Isn't it great- no pain! I couldn't take it any more. It started off just happening during the night, which was fine, because I was home, then recently it has gone into the day when I am at work.  that's when I couldn't take it any more. I didn't want to call in to work once a month and I also didn't want to have D at work all day, when you have it like that you jut want to be in your own home. Well, I am glad something worked for you as well.
