Hi All,
Hope I am posting this in the right place .
I have been suffering from IBS since I was in nursery school - basically as long as I (and my parents) can remember. I am 33 now. Typical symptoms are extreme pain in stomach and lower back and bloating, alternating bowel - one extreme to the other. In my late teens, after every procedure known to man, I gave up on doctors. They would not listen, could/would not help and eventually sent me packing to a Psychologist - who didn't help at all.
Recently I was visiting a Specialist Gastric Surgeon for my hernia and ulceration on my stomach lining from overactive acid pump, and asked him about IBS, whether there are any new treatments/answers. His reply was: There is no such thing as IBS, it is just 'woman problems' and some woman have more problems that others. When I asked him how can pain so bad that is makes me pass out just be 'woman problems'? He answered that some woman just have to deal with these sorts of issues and that is just how it is. *sigh*
I really have lost all hope that someone will listen and maybe come up with a treatment / reason I suffer with such pain. One has to wonder if maybe, if doctors as experienced as he, would actually make an effort, they could solve the IBS problem.
Anyway, sorry for the rant, but I'm sure a lot of people here can understand the frustration!
Jinx.
