Hello -

Medical marijuana is now legal in 38 states, and IBS is a qualifying condition - a spasmodic disorder - in most of them. (The old fashioned term for IBS was actually "spastic colon".)

Ohio is the latest state to add IBS to this list. There is a full state by state list right here as well.

If you're interested in trying this treatment, some general guidelines:

A family doc, internist, Gi doc should all be able (and willing) to give an rx for medical marijuana for IBS if you have that in your state. Then start with a local dispensary. Call and pick their brains for best feedback they have had on strains for IBS, digestive disorders, spasmodic pain, etc.

In general CBD seems better for inflammatory pain and anxiety, THC is better for spasmodic pain and nausea. You can get inhalants, sublinguals, edibles, liquids, pills, etc. For fast help with pain you'd need an inhalant or sublingual, for prevention you can use the liquids, pills, etc. And you can mix and match as you wish.

Always start low and go slow, and try different sativa/indica ratios, different CBD/THC ratios. You can get CBD from hemp but can only get THC from marijuana. You'll have legal CBD options in all fifty states but will need medical marijuana in your state to get the THC versions.

You are not alone.
