Hi I was so surprised to see my username on the boards! I don't know if I can be of help here's what happened with me. I began taking Zoloft at a very low dose, only 12.5 mg. I broke the 25mg pills in half. Zoloft was the 3rd antidepressant I tried, and I'd learned quickly that they affected me very strongly. I had to reduce the dosage of my first med, despramine to below "geriatric" dosage from what I read on a website! (I'm nowhere near geriatric yet!) It took me 6 months of trying the first 2 meds with no effect before I began the Zoloft, and they were not happy months. So, I certainly feel for you. Maybe discuss the dosage with your psychiatrist? For me higher doses of desipramine made me feel groggy and headachy as if I were coming down with a flu.
Anyway as I began Zoloft, I woke up each morning with worse d than ususal and cramping too which almost made me late each day for work. It continued until about lunch time, and then seemed not to come back as bad until the next morning. Well also for the first 4 weeks I also continued having ibs attacks every few days in the evening, and obsessive fears over getting sick - my reason for taking an antidepressant.
I didn't eat much different as I'd been having attacks all the time for a while. Oatmeal and rice, chicken, and soy are my staples i guess. But I certainly ate less, and smaller portions more often.
After 4 weeks I found my worries and fears began to ease and as that took place my attacks did too. I still get them on occcasion. I'd say its been 3 months now and I've had 3 or 4 minor attacks of d with cramping. A much better average than before!
I do continue to go to therapy and also to do Feldenkrais method "Awareness through movement" (see www.feldenkrais.com ) which helps me with stress among many other things. Also I listen to the ibs hypnotherapy cds when I'm in the mood for one.
good luck with it, I hope this helps a little.
